Cullercoats bungalow scheme a real hit

Aurora Properties, working on behalf of North Tyneside Council, is celebrating the completion of the final bungalow on their first scheme on the former care home site in the Marden Estate.

The former Wallington Court sheltered accommodation site, on Wallington Avenue, has been redeveloped to include 12 modern bungalows.

The properties have now all been sold, and two made available for affordable rent, with proceeds of almost £900,000 going back to the council.

Councillor Bruce Pickard, Director of Aurora Properties and Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside, said: “These fantastic new bungalows have made an important contribution to meeting housing needs in the borough, as well as reviving a small parcel of land that wasn’t in use.

“Bungalows are among the most in demand properties on the market and especially with older generations because they are easier to maintain and are designed with older people in mind, as well as being a good way to help people maintain their independence for longer.

“This development has been completely self-financing and delivered at no cost to the council and has resulted in profit of nearly £900,000 going back to the Council. I’d like to thank everyone involved in delivering the project and I hope the homes bring a lot of happiness to our new residents for many years to come.”
